read me!

February 11, 2010

Another project within typographic studies lasting for six weeks. This entitled the design/ layout of a four page magazine spread after choosing one out of three articles provided to us. The brief on this was quite broad, having the research page sizes and all other aspects of typographic studies previously covered in the unit. Again, no imagery was allowed to be used, purely typography. For me, the most important element of this project was to provide the reader with the meaning of the text. I chose the article ‘Read Me, Literacy in Graphic Design’ which discussed and analysed how Graphic Designers convey the meaning of their work through a certain graphic language. For example, we do not see a full stop as a simple full stop, we see it as a circle. I have designed a number of layouts and designs, taking me at least two weeks to refine my final four page layout, opting for a single – double – single page layout shown below. I personally did not want to produce the final result purely using InDesign, therefore have used the typographic from of fridge magnets and incorporated these into my final design.
